Ministry Among Transgender People – Love Without Limits
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
(Galatians 3:28)
Jesus Followers Ministries (JFM) embodies Joshi Anna’s boundless compassion by reaching India’s transgender community—often called Hijras—with the Gospel of acceptance and transformation. Like our work in slums, villages, and orphanages, this ministry affirms every person’s value in God’s eyes, offering dignity to those society rejects.
A Community in Need
India’s transgender individuals, with ancient cultural roots, face deep rejection despite legal recognition as a “third gender.” Families disown them, jobs are scarce, and healthcare is limited. Many turn to streets or begging, carrying wounds of isolation. JFM steps into this gap, carrying Joshi Anna’s vision that no one is beyond Christ’s reach.
Pastor John Spurgeon and Brother Bakth Singh continue their father’s legacy, training local workers to build trust through personal outreach in urban and rural areas.
JFM’s Mission of Love
Rooted in the belief that all are made in God’s image, JFM ministers with:
- Unconditional Gospel Sharing: Bible studies, prayer gatherings, and testimonies in safe spaces.
- Emotional Healing: Counseling for rejection, abuse, and identity struggles.
- Practical Empowerment: Skills training, literacy, and job programs for self-reliance.
- Fellowship and Belonging: Community centers fostering worship, friendship, and family-like bonds.
These efforts mirror church planting—starting with personal encounters, growing into fellowships where new believers disciple others.
Key Programs and Impact
- Street Outreach: Teams meet Hijras where they live, offering prayer, meals, and Gospel tracts.
- Community Centers: Hubs for counseling, health camps, Bible workshops, and vocational skills like tailoring or computers.
- Healthcare Support: Free check-ups and awareness, addressing neglected needs.
- Transformation Stories: Many, like “Meena” (name changed), find faith, healing, and purpose—leading outreaches themselves after family rejection.
Challenges like opposition and prejudice persist, but lives change as Christ brings freedom and identity.
