Rev. Dr. P. Joshi – Global Evangelist and
A Life Set Ablaze for God
From the dusty fields of a small village Gutala in Andhra Pradesh to the hearts of millions across the world as Television, Radio and Global
Evangelist, Rev. Dr. P. Joshi’s life is a testament to what God can do with a willing heart. Born in 1947 to poor yet hardworking parents Mr. John
Ponukumati and Mrs. Kamalamma Ponukumati, he was their only child—their hope for a better future. Though his early years were marked
by hardship, his brilliance in studies set him apart. With the encouragement of his teachers and the grace of God, he pursued his
education with determination, graduating with distinction in Mathematics and Sciences and later in Electrical Engineering from Andhra University in
1969.
But even as academic success opened doors for him, God had a greater calling on his life. At just 15 years old, he encountered Christ in a life-
changing way through the preaching of Bro. Sadhu Sunder Singh. The fire that was lit in his heart that day never faded. Even as a student, he
eagerly shared the Gospel on college campus and with every person he met, knowing that no earthly career could compare to the joy of leading
souls to Christ. In 1982 while working as managing director for mighty batteries company, he surrendered fully to God’s call and stepped into
full-time ministry.
Two years later, in 1984, God led him to Trans World Radio (TWR), where he would become the voice of the Telugu Christian world. Through the
program “Premadhara,” he did something no one had done before—he taught the entire Bible, verse by verse, over seven years. His unwavering
commitment made history, and his messages reached an unprecedented audience of over 10 million listeners. For 14 years, his voice carried the
Good News to homes, villages, and cities, changing lives in ways only eternity will fully reveal.
Yet, his mission was not limited to the airwaves. Rev. Joshi travelled tirelessly, reaching the most remote corners of Andhra Pradesh and
Telangana, bringing thousands upon thousands into the embrace of Christ’s love. His passion, commitment and spirit filled powerful messages
and impact were recognized globally, and in 1986, he was invited to the Itinerant Evangelists’ Conference in Amsterdam as a staff member and
translator for Dr. Billy Graham himself. Honouring his lifelong dedication as itinerant evangelist, the Baptist Church of Hyderabad sanctified him as
a “Reverend of the Lord” in 1990, and in 2001, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Theology in evangelism by Temple Baptist College, Ohio, USA.
His journey took him across the world—preaching at Telugu conferences in the United States, Singapore, Korea, Japan ministering in the Middle
East, and leading believers through the sacred sites of Israel. But despite all these accomplishments, he has remained a humble servant of God,
never seeking recognition, only longing to see more souls saved. He was known as Billy Graham of India for his humongous open-air crusades he
used to do across India especially in Andhra and Telangana. The highest attend crusade was in Guntur, Gunta grounds where 1 lakh people attend
to hear his gospel message. Thousands were saved through these crusades because of his pure word of God and salvation messages.
Rev. Dr. P. Joshi continues to stand as a mighty instrument in God’s hands. His life is proof that God can take the simplest beginnings and turn
them into something extraordinary. The fire that was kindled in his heart at 15 burnt till his last breath.
After serving the Lord faithfully, sacrificially and obediently for nearly 60 years Bro. Joshi Anna received his eternal home calling on 25 th September
2021 due to massive heart attack. In his 60 years of ministry, millions have come to know the unfailing love of Christ around the globe.
It’s a testament of how Rev. Dr. P. Joshi garu or Bro. Joshi anna fondly called by millions of Telugu people was honoured by three different
denomnations for his funeral services. Mennonite Church at Musheerabad, Hebron Church at Golconda crossroads and Hyderabad Baptist Church.
He was deeply loved and cherished by all denomations across Christian community. Pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and youth from different
parts of India and abroad attended his funeral to pay their last respects to a humble yet dynamic servant of God. He was known for his bold loving voice that will be missed.
His journey is not just a story—it is an inspiration to many. A call to every believer that God is ready to use anyone who dares to say, “Here I am, Lord, send me.”
He left his footprints all across the globe. His legacy is carried forward by his eldest son Pastor John Spurgeon and youngest son Bro. Bakthsing
He leaves behind his beloved wife Mrs.Divakrupavaram, 6 children- Mrs. Florence Temple Nelapati, Grace Christiana Nagathota, John Spurgeon Ponukumati, Joylee ponukumati, Swetha Joshi Allam, and Bakth Singh Ponukumati. He has 11 grand children.

Brother Bakth Singh: A Vessel Chosen for God’s Glory
A God-Ordained Calling
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” — Jeremiah 1:5
From eternity past, the Lord had set His eyes upon Brother Bakth Singh, the youngest son of God’s servant, Rev. Dr. P. Joshi Anna Garu. Handpicked by divine election, he has been entrusted with the sacred responsibility of carrying forward the heavenly vision of his father with humility, brokenness, and grace.
Even from childhood, the marks of God’s call rested upon him—a tender heart of prayer, a burning passion for Christ, and an unshakable longing to walk in the perfect will of God.
Today, as the National Director and Administrative Vice President of Jesus Followers Ministries, he is known as a Spirit-anointed preacher whose words flow like rivers of living water—reviving weary souls, piercing hardened hearts, and leading multitudes to forsake worldly pleasures and embrace the eternal Kingdom of God.
The Moment of Surrender
In the year 2005, having completed his Computer Engineering, and later while pursuing his Master’s degree in the UK (2008), the Lord divinely interrupted his earthly plans. During a brief visit to India in November 2008, he encountered the unmistakable voice of God—an encounter as life-transforming as Paul’s Damascus road experience.
From that holy moment, his heart was ignited with a single desire: to serve the Lord in the footsteps of his father. With holy surrender, he laid down his career, ambitions, and personal dreams. Like Abraham leaving Ur, he forsook everything in the UK and returned to India in simple, childlike obedience to embrace the call of full-time ministry.
For the next twelve years, he was lovingly nurtured, disciplined, and refined under the prayerful mentorship of his father, Joshi Anna. This season became the foundation stone of his life—rooted in the Word, strengthened through unceasing prayer, and purified in the furnace of ministry.
A Father-Son Bond Like Elijah and Elisha
The Lord joined Bro. P. Joshi Anna and Bro. Bakth Singh in a holy partnership—laboring shoulder to shoulder across villages, towns, and cities, proclaiming Christ and winning souls for His Kingdom.
Their bond was more than father and son; it was a spiritual companionship, like Elijah and Elisha, bound together in vision and burden. Faithfully, Bro. Bakth Singh stood by his father until his final breath, honoring him with love and loyalty. Today, that mantle rests upon him and his elder brother, as they continue to walk in the heavenly vision entrusted through their father.
The same love, care, and shepherd-heart that believers once saw in Joshi Anna is now alive in Bro. Bakth Singh, who is embraced not just as a preacher but as a spiritual son, brother, and father-figure by the flock he serves.
Ministry with a Burden for Souls
“He who wins souls is wise.” — Proverbs 11:30
A burning burden for the perishing consumes his heart. The Lord has entrusted him with ministries that stretch far beyond pulpits:
Open-Air Evangelistic Crusades
Television Ministry every Saturday & Sunday on Aradhana Channel
Prayer Meetings & Outreach Services
Compassionate Ministries, extending Christ’s love to:
AIDS-affected children
Rag pickers
Transgender communities
Orphans and street children
The elderly in old-age homes
The deaf and mute
Leprosy patients
Victims of natural disasters
With Christ-like compassion, he touches the untouchable, comforts the rejected, and restores dignity to the forgotten. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he personally strengthened struggling pastors and needy families, becoming the hands and feet of Christ in their darkest hour.
Media Ministry
Through the grace of God, the ministry of media has become a mighty tool for evangelism. The Jesus Followers Ministries Monthly Magazine is a spiritual lifeline to thousands of Telugu-speaking believers across the globe. Every edition carries an editorial prayerfully written by Bro. Bakth Singh, under the leading of the Holy Spirit—just as his father once did.
His central message remains clear and unwavering:
“ Jesus changes lives, not religions.”
Impacting the Telugu Diaspora and Beyond
From the remotest hamlets of India to Telugu-speaking families scattered across the nations, his ministry continues to be a beacon of light and revival. Testimonies abound—hearts healed, families restored, and faith rekindled—witnesses of the mighty hand of God working through His chosen servant.
A Family Rooted in Christ
In Hyderabad, Bro. Bakth Singh is blessed and strengthened by the love and prayers of his wife, Sweeny Patricia, and their children, Oswald Joseph Smith and Amen Joshi Selah (named in memory of Joshi Anna). Their Christ-centered family shines as a testimony of faith, unity, and service—a living example of the Gospel in daily life.
A Legacy for Generations
Like a true shepherd after God’s own heart, his greatest longing is not only to lead souls to salvation but also to raise up Spirit-filled disciples who will carry the fire of revival to future generations. His vision is of a Church awakened in prayer, overflowing in worship, and steadfast in mission until the Lord’s return.
“Here am I, send me.” — Isaiah 6:8
Truly, the life of Brother Bakth Singh is a testimony to what God can accomplish through a vessel wholly surrendered to His will. He is indeed a chosen instrument, carrying the fire of revival and the fragrance of Christ to this generation and the generations yet to come.
JFM Vision
Our vision and calling is to Reach the unreached millions in India, especially the unreached Hindus with the good news of Jesus Christ and to reach the children of India with the love of Jesus. Even today there are places in India, when asked who is Jesus? they reply who is he? Is he a political leader or an actor ?
Our purpose is to fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus gave to the Church to “Go yeah into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15). We are dedicated to spreading the Good News of the redemption of mankind by the shed blood of Jesus Christ in hopes that Indian people will accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and receive eternal life.
Out of India’s vast billion population, 855 millions live in the rural areas. They do not have the opportunity that other people of the world have to hear about Jesus Christ. Hence our primary aim is to make Christ known in the villages of India.
We achieve our vision by using tracts, movie and video presentations to create interest in spiritual matters, and regularly visiting homes to teach about Jesus Christ and by conducting Gospel outreach meetings. We provide tracts, booklets, Gospels and Bibles for further understanding of the spiritual truths.
We conduct group discussion meetings for those who want to know more and Bible study groups for those who accept the Lord, baptism, and fellowship of believers to plant churches.
We are working among the unreached Hindus in the villages of Andhra Pradesh, South India. God has placed a burden in our hearts to share the Gospel with India’s millions and to reach the children of India with the love of Jesus. To fulfill our mission, we are involved with.
